1. How to define off-road running?

  • Study: Defining off-road racing: the position of Ultra Sports Science
  • Sporting universe: running and trail running
  • Who: Volker Scheer, Patrick Basset, Nicola Giovanelli, Gianlua Vernillo, Gregoire Millet, Ricardo Costa.
  • Donating Companies: Ultra Sports Science Foundation
  • Study: Completed 2020
  • Conclusion: We provide guidance on defining off-road running events based on distance covered, terrain, altitude change, environmental conditions, and competition rules and standards by the respective governing bodies. We provide further guidance on defining off-road running athletes based on basic biometric data, training and com- petition characteristics, and physiological determinants. We recommend the adoption of these definitions and nomenclature for future scientific research, providing a universal and consistent language.

Among the negative points, the injury and the feeling of lack of cessation of the practice are the most highlighted.
