exercise-associated
gastrointestinal
symptoms

La mort subite du sportif, Ultra sports science, ultra-endurance, fondation

Reduced blood flow to the gut and increase sympathetic drive associated with exercise has been linked to clinical implications: such as severe gastrointestinal symptoms that warrants exercise cessation to fatal septic shock or instigation of gastrointestinal inflammatory or function disease/disorder in athletes with predisposition. icone ultra-endurance santé

Gastrointestinal symptom incidence has been reported to affect 60-96% of ultra-endurance athletes during competition. Symptoms can range from mild discomfort and inconvenience to extremely severe that cause ultra-endurance activity reduced workload, cessation, or even withdrawal, including the need for medical attention during and extended to a prolonged period after the ultra-endurance event.

Thus, exercise-associated gastrointestinal symptom is multi-factorial and dynamic in nature, making it difficult and tricky to detect, manage, and treat.

We finance medical studies
dedicated to this highly relevant
and prevalent medical complication
in ultra-endurance sports,
to better prevent and manage.
